I don’t usually post photos of my home because I don’t intend to be a style blogger but since I’m planning to relocate next year (or God knows even sooner?) I have thought to share my home as I have so many sweet memories here. More than a year ago I moved out from an HDB to a sub-urban apartment in Singapore near the reservoir with an intent that maybe, just maybe if I will have time, I can have a dog again. The park at the reservoir and the beautiful scenery will be perfect for me and the dog, especially on the weekend. Unfortunately, my schedule is unpredictable at work and I am required to travel than expected.
But I stay focused on positive things like cooking on the weekend, afternoon-tea with the girlfriends, swimming, and lots of outdoor activities to enjoy the sunshine and more!
In the first few months, I spent all weekend unpacking and organizing my apartment. I’m happy that I didn’t buy so many stuff and I maintain a minimalist lifestyle. It feels great to come to a clean home after a long day at work. I feel energized whenever I am home from downtown.
So, let me give you a virtual tour. This could be the last posts of my home because the next posts will be a new home. 😊
I have a home office but when the weather is beautiful, I bring my laptop to the dining table to do my work online. I write the terms-sheet on weekend and I interview startups on Skype on Sunday. If you are one of the startups I have interviewed, you are probably familiar in my light blue wallpaper? 😊
My kitchen is small and therefore, I have to maintain it clean. It is unnecessary to buy things because there is no enough space.
My favourite area at home is the balcony. I enjoy the warm weather, the lovely view of the pool and my 21” laptop is just perfect in the small table. I feel relax and I can process my thoughts at work. This is why I’m friendly on Mondays because my weekend is fulfill with love and positive energy. I don’t entertain any gossips, negative perspectives or worries of other people. I stay focused on my life.
I have a sweet pink situation in my bedroom and I like it! I grew up with four sisters who are vain and girly-girl. At age 10, I already know how to dress up, the kind of shoes and purse I want to buy, the hairstyle for school, and my weekend outfit at the children’s party. I grew up from a home where my mother was social and posh. Not to mentioned she was a former Ms. Manila in her early twenties. Almost every weekend we have parties, BBQ, girlfriends night out and movie bonding.
So, if you thinking my feminine personality is phony…it is because you don’t know me at all, my upbringing, the environment I grew up and the people around me.
The bathroom is my 2nd favourite area at home this is where I do my body scrub whilst listening to the bad rap ass music of Cardi B., G-Eazy, Post Malone and other rap artists. I can literally hang out here for an hour or so.
My college friends Jason, best friend Sebastian and Rajes are a few of my dear friends who are contributors to my bathroom scents. Thank you! xx
On weekend, I chill again on the balcony with tropical fruits and the flamingo float.
I love reading inspirational books on the weekend. My kind of books is anything that is good for my heart, soul, and bank. I equally love strategy books in business.
I am not into fashion or lifestyle magazine. If I crave for any style, I check my favourite bloggers’ latest posts.
Since my schedule is tight every week, it is rare that I have time to cook or bake but when I do, I make sure the cake is made from scratch. I learned how to bake from my mother and also because I studied at a girls’ school where baking was part of the curriculum.
Meals I cooked! 🙂
Last December 2018, I wasn’t planning to celebrate Christmas or New Year at all! In fact, I told my partners that they can take a long holiday and I will take care of everything including the year end meetings in town.
However, it is hard not to cook during this season because cake logs at the grocery is on discount! Lol Plus, I don’t mind to invite family and friends over for dinner.
I like Mediterranean, Italian and Caribbean meals. The smokey flavours, the herbs and spices and how it well done in the oven….urrrghhh it makes me hungry. Every single time.
The Girls Night Out + Staycations.
In a startup, I’m literally the only female in the group from the partners to the tech developers. I know I don’t look like someone “nerdy” but if you know me personally and way back college days you know that I can code, design a website (like the one you are looking at right now) and I can also hack!
So, when I am done in my tech mode, I need some fresh air out of the office. I need my girls time – dressing up for brunch or afternoon-tea, chat over coffee and sweets, selfie parties, and play dress up at night.
I love all my girlfriends and I have no favourites. It will be unfair and unethical to say I have a favourite over the other ladies. I don’t want anyone to feel less of themselves because each of them is unique and has different personalities.
I like Paivikki because she is sooooo stylish. If you see her in person, she has dolly face, very tall like a Victoria Secret model, she has a genuine smile, she has delicate skin (she loves skincare!), and she always talks positively about others. I met her through her husband back in 2016. Her husband is one of my shareholders and financial advisors. They are lovely couple indeed.
I like Jenny and Marketa (Paivikki’s friends) because they are cheerful and loves to laugh. I like that Jenny is very posh and she is charitable whilst I like the Irish accent of Marketa. She is a sweetheart.
I like Rajes and Vicky because they are sporty, love food, and chill. I can meet them for a casual tea-tarik in town in my L-size shirt without make-up.
If I cannot afford to travel on the weekend, I don’t mind to have a staycation in Singapore. My favourite is to stay in the city so I can hang out with my girlfriends at day, chill in the bar at early evening, have in-room dining at night, do my work in the evening and hang out again with the girls in the morning. The bedtime stories with friends can literally last up to 5 in the morning. We can talk about the past, the heartbreaks, and drama with the ex….ha ha ha!
Then sleep zzzzzzzz.
Many of you know, I almost settled to Boston some years ago. I like the vibe, local culture, hipster café, intellectual and liberal people, and the sports bar everywhere (minus the Dunkin Donuts at every corner, lol). Whilst it didn’t work out but I am happy to build my life again in Singapore surrounded by amazing friends and virtual support from family in the States.
My family is the 2nd generation of Filipino-Americans by culture, education, and values. So, whenever new friends see me as “Filipino” who transfers money to Western Union on Sunday I just laugh along with them. Lol I’m always up for jokes and sarcasm. My favourite joke? Is whenever I say, “please leave me alone I’m just a poor immigrant”.
In Singapore, I always visit several amazing new restaurants with girlfriends. We love the bars at Amoy street and Boat Quay but believe it or not, we leave the pubs before 10 pm. All of my girlfriends are married or in a relationship. Hence, there are limitations when we have fun on the weekend.
I’m a big breakfast at heart. I absolutely love hotel in-room brekky during a staycation. It’s refreshing and I enjoy the warm black coffee.
I’m grateful to be able to experience life in Singapore. I had the best time of my teenage and adult life in the island! I grew up hanging out at Sentosa on weekend, eating at Kopi shops and making friends with the locals. Although I always deny that I have adopted a Singlish accent but, in my heart, I am somehow a Singaporean by education, lifestyle and values.
I look forward to moving to a new apartment with the love of my life JB, perhaps we can have a dog someday and create memories together. I don’t always share my relationship because I prefer to keep it low-key and private until I’m 100% sure. Kidding.
Many of my friends say, they never thought of me one day I will leave Singapore. I think when you are in-love with someone you think of all the possibilities in life, you disregard the fears, you’re willing to take new challenges and you look forward to enjoying life together.
Thanks for reading until I share my next adventure! 😉
