I just moved to a new apartment and I wanted to stay inspired and motivated to keep the positive vibe. There is nothing much to fix in the kitchen other than to put a quality mat and fancy utensils that I can use occasionally when I host a party.
If you know me, I’m really a lady and I truly enjoy collecting fancy dishes and decorating home. I like minimalist and contemporary style as if I’m having a staycation at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. I always have a good mood for hosting afternoon-tea for my girlfriends.
I prepared the NYE 2021 dinner at home but this time there is no feast but simple meals that I can have leftovers. I marinated Aussie Angus beef with Worcestershire and bbq sauce, mustard, garlic, salt, and single malt whiskey. The side dishes are creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed garlic and mushrooms.
I eat the meals with my absolute favourite rosé from Chateau Minuty and I also have another white wine in the fridge. I like that Minuty is a family-owned vineyard in the lovely Saint Tropez, that has a passion for organic farming and their winery in Cotes de Provence harvests 100% of their grapes by hand which is amazing.
First, I marinated the meat and keep it in the fridge overnight.
I added single malt whiskey from Westland (US brand). It isn’t as strong as Irish whiskey. I also bought flowers from the grocery as I love them. My favourite flowers are tulips, pink roses, and daisies. When I was living in Sydney, I always buy tulips for my kitchen but in Singapore, it is an expensive type of flowers. Hence, I only get what’s on sale in the grocery.
I added a Versace mat, 100% cotton with gold-tone trim to transform my kitchen into a decadent experience.
Growing up with a mum who can cook our home smells fresh-baked bread and cookies. My sisters and I decorate cakes with creamy frosting. We are allowed to invite friends and we take turns which weekend we can host at home.
As a grown-up, I find it practical to only buy a cake when you don’t have guests. It can save you time, effort, and flour.
I’m a both coffee and tea lover, hence I enjoy it with sponge cake with fruits on top.
I added orange and strawberry jams to spread with bread.
The NYE dinner meals that I enjoy making and eating. I sautéed onions and garlic, fried it with butter and marinated sauce from the meat. Sumi made creamy mashed potatoes.
The secret to making hotel restaurant mash potatoes: choose small organic potatoes instead of big ones. Add full-cream milk, butter, and salt to taste. I learned the tricks from Morton’s Steakhouse, Chicago.
