My co-founders and I have been planning a move to Jakarta but since we are busy in Singapore, it’s not easy to schedule a trip. Thank goodness last week, we managed to make it happen! Here’s why we believe it’s worth investing in Indonesia.
The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta is just 1 hour and 20 minutes flight from Singapore. At SGD 80 (or less) you can book a flight via Jetstar. Thus if you have business in Singapore and if you intend to grow it in SEA, Jakarta is the right place to go.
Indonesia market is huge with over 300 million population and the GDP is also competitive amongst emerging markets. Therefore, if you have products or services targeting South East Asian countries, Indonesia may be the best choice.
- Political Stability:
The current administration has good business approach to both locals and foreigners. The underlying Indonesia’s vibrant economy is political stability. It’s easier now to incorporate a business than 5-10 years ago. The information is easy to access, legal pass is manageable to process and things are transparent (black & white).
- Investment Climate:
Just like India, Indonesia has massive investors network where locals can afford to invest to startups and businesses from S$ 20,000 – S$1M. Therefore, even if their currency is lower than most SEA countries but they continue reforming investment climate to grow their economy.
- Beautiful Culture:
Indonesia has interesting culture amongst South East Asian countries. The food is good, locals are friendly, and it’s easy to travel around. I can literally live in Indonesia if I am not based in Singapore.
Thanks to our partners and friends in Indonesia.
